Break's over...

I started my weekend off with the Strongsville Super Saturday 5k on St. Patrick's Day.  While I wanted to report a PR, I came in about 20 seconds over my last 5k time in Feb.  I finished Saturdays 5k in 41:47.  I am happy with it overall, but deep down really thought I would come in at, or, under 40:00.

How cute is my running capri skort from
www.RunningFunky.com?!
Spent the rest of the day replenishing my fluids with a mixture of water and beer... which ultimately led to an unfortunate spill .... that ultimately led to me waking up Sunday with a sprained/bruised left wrist, a bruised left knee and just a little bit of dignity after my shenanigans the night before.  It is a good thing I have a wonderful husband who understands my irrational need to spend the day celebrating a day that isn't even part of my heritage, and that St. Patrick's Day is only one day a year!  Either way, I survived (barely) - Holla!

We headed to Kalahari that Sunday and had a great two days running around a water park in our bathing suits, tubing, floating on the lazy river, eating good eats, toasting alittle hair of the dog, hot tubbin it up, and finally crashing really hard, really early.  I had full intentions of getting my strength workout in on Monday when we got home, but between my throbbing wrist (methinks I overdid it at Kalahari) and dinner with friends that night, it just did not happen.

Tuesday was my husbands Uncle Bomb's funeral.  I knew I would not be getting any type of run in as we left in the wee hours of the morning and got home way too late.  The only running I was doing was up to bed!

Needless to say - Wednesday rolled around and really, I felt so overtired and like I was in a fog that I wasn't going to be doing any physical activity (I realize this is when the movement/exercise helps the most... I am totally using this as an excuse so leave it be).

I have been taking it easy this week (=no strength workouts or #6packmarch) to let my wrist heal up.  While I think I can bear weight on it - I really don't want to injure it anymore and be down and out for longer than I need to.

Today is Thursday.  I am getting ready to head out for a run.  I thought about skipping this totally, ad chalking this week up to a complete break week/rest week - but I realized I have a long run scheduled for Saturday and I really like those (I know, right?!).  I cannot hit that run cold, so today - I hit the road for a short, easy run to get the old muscles moving.  I was beating myself up earlier today about taking the time off (whether intentional or not) - and than I realized, everyone has an off week - and this just so happens to be mine.  It is not going to be easy getting back at it tonight - but I am ready.

My break is over.
