#resound11 - Achievement Unlocked

December 7, 2011 Prompt:

Achievement Unlocked

What goal did you set for yourself and achieve this year? Did you achieve something you didn't think you could? Did you win an award? Did you set a record? Did you finally get your VCR from 1985 to stop blinking 12:00?

C'mon, share it!

Today is your chance to brag and get a resounding round of interweb applause.

Congratulations! You did it!

How will you resound?

Who knew 2011 would be the year that I started to be a runner?

If we were still in January, I would NEVER have looked forward and guessed that I would be bragging about the achievement I unlocked this year (as we all know, I wasn't running unless someone was chasing me).  Well, being 12 months later, I am happy to brag that I have run my first (of many to come) 5k's!

The Lakewood Reindeer Run was held last Saturday (about 2 weeks shy of my #5kin100days graduation, but I wasn't going to back out).  I wrote up a few notes on the race immediately after I cooled down and got into the car.  In place of re-recapping, here are the raw notes:

I was nervous beginning the day before the race.  I barely slept, and that was evident to my body around the first mile marker.  But I forged on.  A few other notes that I did not include is how much I enjoyed smiling at the other runners that were making their way back to the finish.  Not sure if they noticed - but it made me feel good, and it also helped to push me that much further.

My results...

 137   Mel H.   Cleveland OH   1478   31   1263   41:58.90   43:33.82    13:32/M

I ran the 5k in 41:58.90 (which is about 3.5 minutes LESS than Run the Hood in October) with an average of 13:32 miles.  This is atleast 30 seconds off my normal pace.  I was 137 in my age group, and 1263rd out of 1500.  Not too shabby for my first "running" race.

I am still smarting from last weekend.  This was a biggie, and to know that I only walked about 4.5 minutes of the 42 is amazing to me.  I have come a long way and I cannot wait for my next race (#5kin100days Graduation Run 5k) in a week and a half!

I am proud of myself for this achievement - it is something I did for myself, and I succeeded.

Go me!
