December 6, 2011 Prompt:
Thelma & Louise
So
far you've summed up the year in one word, admitted your vices, touted your
virtues, revealed your superpower, and let us in on your theme song, but no
superhero does it alone ...
Who
is the Thelma to your Louise? Who is your partner in crime? Did you reacquaint
yourself with an old friend? Did you make a new friend? Or, perhaps, you are a
lone ranger?
Take
some time today to look back on how you spent your year and give a shout out to
anyone that helped to make it special. If you don't have any close friends that
fit the bill, think about who you spend your time with on a regular basis, who
is the bright spot in your day?Who makes your life just a
little bit better just by being themselves?
How will you resound?
My first inclination is to answer my BFF of 25 years - but while she is and always will be the Thelma to my Louise, I want to highlight some of the others that really helped motivate me over the past year.
My husband holds a top spot here. He has put up with my mood swings, my crazy bingeing, and being kicked out of the living room when it was time for me to do my new workout video of the week (I've since been banished to the basement, but whatever...). Sometimes, I have questioned how he feels about my lifestyle changes (with regard to exercising, as we have both committed to eating better). He has told me on a million more than one occasion that I am losing my boobs, or that my rear is getting smaller. He teases a bit - and we both laugh. But what he doesn't realize is those moments when he blurts out "Holy crap babe, your looking really good/wow you look skinny/Great Job babe!" are the ones that push me the most. He knows I am busting it trying to make these changes, and also explore new avenues of exercise, and he doesn't smother me with non-heartfelt encouragement. (whoaaa. Keep reading) And I love it because when he does give me encouragement - I know it is coming from his heart, and he really means it. I don't know if I could do any of it without him (even when I think he doesn't pay attention to what I'm doing, or want to join in with me) I know he is there and it means the world! But shhh, not sure he would like being called my Thelma...
There are so many others that I want to mention, but there are not enough words for me to describe how they have helped me, held me accountable, pushed me, listened to me, and basically were just there for me - whether they realize it or not. I am thankful as they have been with me throughout the year and I owe them. Big time!
