Holy Crap It's Christmas!

It is officially Christmas Eve as I type this...  I should officially be sleeping, but it seems all of the decaf coffee I've been drinking is catching up to me...

Every Christmas Eve, J and I have an open house at our home after mass.  It is mostly his family, as it has been a tradition on his side since his grandma was alive.  He took over when she passed.  This is great - except for the fact that in true J and M fashion, we I am double booked.  See, my side also has had a tradition of spending Christmas Eve together and eating a great dinner followed by exchanging presents.  Over the years, as we have gotten older, and now have only two young ones in the fam, we decided to forgo the presents for the adults and just have a nice Christmas Eve eating and visiting.

While I never rushed out of my families dinner, I am always showing up late to my own party.  Yes, J will be home with our guests, but I feel like so much work goes into prepping for our open house, that I rarely get to enjoy it.  At home.  Don't get me wrong, I love visiting with my side, but since we do not see his side on Christmas day, I feel that I should be at home, with my husband, and our houseful of guests.  I have since decided that it is only right for me to stay home and co-host on Christmas Eve - next year.  I will still be joining my family for dinner and visiting, but I will be coming home a bit early, so I can still see J's family and visit.  Next year will be the first year I am not with my side on Christmas Eve, and while it kind of sucks, I can't help but be excited for J and I to start our own tradition, together!  After all, we are lucky enough to be able to spend all day Christmas with my side of the family.

Needless to say, we have been running around like two crazies for the last week prepping, cleaning, cooking (ok, not really, and I never did get to my baking... but that's another story!), shopping, cleaning that I really started feeling like we were just running around getting all of this stuff done, and not appreciating it, or each other.  I was in quite a mood because of this and I think he caught on today.  Both of use have been working hard... going all day, every day since Monday... yet tonight, as we finally sat down for some leftover pizza dinner, he thanked me for doing so much to make his holiday nice and special.  It meant alot to him that I was doing what I normally do every year, and it meant alot to me that he noticed.  I think all of our hard work is going to pay off with a wonderful night tomorrow/tonight, and Christmas day!  I am finally feeling this Christmas spirit everyone keeps talking about! And I couldn't be happier.

In other news, my brother Eric finally made it home after 7+ months on deployment.  I am so happy for my sissa and my niecey that they have their boy back!  They got to meet the boat, and had signs, tshirts and banners made for him when he arrived!  the pictures are something else to see I tell ya!  I know, I looked at them atleast 10 times since my sis sent the link.  I can't even imagine what it was like to be there in person, but  I am glad I was not - as I would NOT have been able to keep it together.  We sent our santa box to them to arrive tomorrow just in time to open, and he has lots of goodies in there (we wrapped all the stuff we failed to send to him when he was out to sea, so he gets some extras!), and I can't wait to hear from my sis to see if she likes her gift as well!  Just wish we could be there when they open them!  Welcome home brother, we are so happy you are safe in the arms of your wife, and the little arms of your daughter!  Soak it up dude!

You can still find me blogging over here every week when I am absent from here.  Our last round ended October 28th, and I have been trying to watch and weigh weekly to maintain my current weight.  Since I have not been so good watching what I put into my trap, I have found my weight fluctuating about 2 pounds here and there (loss one week, gain another).  But it is balancing out, and I would love to enter 2011 in the 170's... So next week, it is back to work baby!

In case I don't come back for a year's look back or reflection if you will, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas (or Happy whatever holiday you celebrate), and a Happy, and Safe New Year!

Till next time....
