I am more than halfway through my book list, and I have added two upon the recommendation of a good friend. Here's a quick summary of what I completed so far - forgive the briefness (is that a word?), but with reading them all - and not having the energy (read=lazy) to review them all, it is what it is...
Are you there vodka? It's me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler - what can I say, I idolize this woman! She is funny, and straightforward, albeit a bit of a hot mess! Read it!
Waiter rant : thanks for the tip--confessions of a cynical waiter by the Anonymous Waiter... What can I say, I really thought this would be more of a "we spit in your food and put pubes in your salad" kind of book. To say I was disappointed would be a lie, but I do think it is a bit misleading... I wanted the juicy stuff! But, having worked in the restaurant biz for close to 6 years, I understood and related with the story being told. I looked at the book as more of a psychoanalysis of people who work in "the biz." Not necessarily a tell all, but a memoir analyzing the anonymous waiter (who really isn't that anonymous anymore!). If you don't want to get the book, read the blog... it is the same.
sTORI telling by Tori Spelling with Hilary Liftin. Seriously, it is Tori Spelling's life story. While I did get sucked into her drama, it has very little on 90210, and she plugs her made for TV career like it is her job... Oh wait... If you like her, read the book - if not... why bother.
1 dead in attic : after Katrina by Chris Rose. Again, the obsession surfaces. This is a great book to get a real look into the people that survived "the monster" or "that thing that happened in fall of 05" and the repercussion of the storm on the city. Chris Rose is a writer for the Times Picayune NOLA newspaper. This book is a collection of essays, editorials, and journals written by him, for the not only the people of NO, but for the country. While he and his family evacuated from the storm, this story is told in parts from the time they evacuate to one year later and than some. He returned to the city weeks after Katrina, and experienced the devastation first hand, and than tried to paint a picture so all could have some insight into that crazy time. The book reads as something no one should have to go through... his stories are from the front lines, and from the heart. Read it.
That is all I have for now, more to come as I receive more books...
Here's the update.
