Yes, you read correctly, for four weeks, I have been completing fast walking/running interval workouts three times a week. Crazy, right?!
A couple weeks back I kept noticing people using the #5kin100days hashtag in their tweets, and I just HAD to find out what that meant. I ventured over to BradGansberg.com and read all about how he wants to teach me to run a 5k in 100 Days.
Now, those of you who know me, know that I do not like to run. It hurts, it is not comfortable, my butt jiggles, I can't catch my breath and I don't want people
So, for the next 10 weeks (since I already have 4 behind me!), I will be training 3x a week so I can run a full 5k by the second week of December. It is going well, although it has not been all smooth sailing.
So far, I am one week behind because I did not read the directions very well for the start (scheduled start was 8/29, my start is 9/5). This was really getting at me. I really dislike being behind, and trust me, I tried to find a way to catch up - but nothing was very realistic in terms of doing 6 workouts in one week when I am a beginner. I had to stop worrying about being one week behind and concentrate on doing what I had to do for the week, for ME.
I had to face my fear of trying to run while others were at the track - but by the end of week one, I was hoofin' it - jiggly butt and all! I realized we are all there for the same reason, so if they want to get a good giggle cause of little old me, than so be it. Me, I am not that concerned anymore with the others at the track (except to be aware of my surroundings, and keep tally of where they are at all times in case they try to hit me on the head/kidnap/beat me up - yes, these are real thoughts that cross my mind).
Planning has been my godsend - I find that if it is on my calendar, I will do it. I set up my google calendar as a workout calendar and have been plugging all of the workouts in week by week. Although I was a tad stressed that I missed out on Monday due to "recovery" - see last post. I tend to let missed workouts be a catalyst for missing more, and more, and so on and so on. History proves this... and I know it - so the stress was understandable on my part. Cue Brad to the rescue...
This was motivation enough to get back up on Tuesday, and make it happen. I had to do back to back workouts this week since I missed Monday, which is a BIG no-no in #5kin100days-world. I have a rest day/s coming up this weekend and it will be much needed. But in the meantime, I have to finish 4.3 tomorrow.
Bottom line - I am learning to be a runner! Well, jogger at this time, but you never know how far I can take this! I am feeling more confident, and my body is feeling better with each workout.
Good things are happening peeps... Good things.
I almost forgot to brag alittle today - I almost ran around the whole track today (I was doing a little experiment, and I came out of it very pleased!)
Slow and steady! Slow and Steady!!
