One half down...

I did it! Well, half of it anyway. I rode my bike to work today. This is something I have been talking about doing for two years. I was lucky enough to "fall into" a great bike in March, and it has sat in my garage since it's tune up. Well, today, I finally got up the nerve to get on and ride to work!

While I would love to tell you that that old saying is true for me (you know, "It's like riding a bike... ") - it was alittle rough. In my mind, I was going to get on, and ride like the wind, like I never stopped riding 15 years ago. I also had this delusional thought that it was only going to take me 20 minutes to get to work (just shy of 4 miles one way). Needless to say, I really should plan for about 40 minutes.

HA! Well, here I am, 30 minutes and 3.68 miles later - I did it! Some of the things I learned on my maiden voyage into work:

  • I should really eat something before I leave the house (normally, I eat breakfast at work, but a banana or apple before my ride would not be a bad idea).
  • A windbreaker in 70 degrees can quickly turn into a sweat lodge creating the shirt you were wearing/bra/head and hair to quickly become damp and gross.
  • Pack an extra shirt/tank/bandanna - see above.
  • I need a basket.
  • A water bottle holder is a good idea too.
I am really proud of myself for conquering this small goal.  In the larger scheme of things, I would like to plan to ride to work atleast 2 days out of the week for the next couple of weeks, possibly more as I get more comfortable.  But for now, I will stick with two days, and go from there.

I thought I had needed a bigger seat, but it turns out that this ride was not as bad on my butt as my mini ride a few weeks back (around the block).  I really do just need to get used to it.

Today is a yay me kinda day!

Now, I have to get home!  hahaha!
