So, in the whirlwind that is twitter, I have been reading alot of the articles and blogs on which many analyze and explain what twitter is and how it works. Many are trying to figure out how to best utilize twitter for marketing purposes - be it a brand or marketing yourself.
I understand all of this - yet I struggle with why I use twitter? The best I can come up with is ...
I enjoy reading and following others insightful, fun, witty 140 word posts. I am nosey (I have mentioned this on more than one occassion!). It keeps me connected with what is going on in and around my neighborhood, as well as to my local paper. I also get realtime updates as to when my favorite bloggers update their blogs without always having to dig through my reader. It is a fun little tool. Tool for what - as far as I am concerned, it is a tool that let's me express myself in my own 140 word form.
My question goes back to balancing personal / business on social mediums. Who says I cannot use twitter, or my blog to post about things that interest me, educational articles, or just plain what I ate for breakfast? Apparently, I am breaking some type of ettiquette rule with the breakfast post... Really?! How are there rules for a social media that people are still trying to figure out? Apparently, my tweeple don't want to know what I am doing throughout random periods of the day... And if this is the case, than I say unfollow me.
Personally, I enjoy the 140 word "What are you doing?" of my tweeps.

i can't explain why i love twitter so much. it's one of those things you have to try to know why. :)
Ya know, the more i use it, the more ideas i have on why and how people use it. there's tons out there about "etiquette" but i think the fact of the matter is that you and the people you follow are probably connected by something, and you know how to behave for the most part in those social circles, right? and like in real life, if you find someone uncouth, rude, or otherwise offensive, you probably won't want to associate with them? Tweet on, i say!
Thanks for the feedback! I am just proud of myself that I am a consistent user (which is more than I can say for my blog!) And that is what it is all about, connecting, and communicating.
What I like about Twitter is it's unlike any other social media outlet (well, at least it used to be - I hear there are other similar tools out there now). Personally, I don't use it. I'd rather keep up with friends and family and the community around me through other means and personally feel Twitter dumbs down the world around us (how can you really say something important in 140 letters - it's possible, but my guess is 95% lacks depth). But, I do appreciate that it is one way for people to stay connected to the world around them.
