40 Days and 40 Nights

So Ash Wednesday has come and passed... I couldn't help but think all day on what I would do for Lent this year. It was so easy when we were in grade school and it was OK to give up biting my nails, or chocolate. However, we are adults now, and as adults we are expected to make a sacrifice for the duration of 40 days and 40 nights, to "offer it up."

I did some thinking on this yesterday, and decided that instead of just giving something up, I would use Lent as a Spring Cleaning. A Spring Cleaning of ME! My thought process is that God made all of us humans, he gave us the best gift anyone could give - our body and souls. Why not begin taking better care of this gift.

So, for the next 40 days and 40 nights, I have decided to offer up the Spring Cleaning of Me. What that means, I am still working on figuring out, but I know it will include getting my body moving, and paying more attention to the type of fuel I put into my body. So what do you think? What are you "offering up" this Lenten season?

Lenten prayer
"So far today, God, I've done all right. I haven't gossiped, I haven't lost my temper. Haven't been grumpy, nasty or selfish. I'm really glad of that.
But in a few minutes, God, I'm going to get out of bed; and from then on, I'm probably going to need a lot of help."

I'm in with the Spring Cleaning idea. That is what I thought anyways - no junk food, sweets, fast food, etc. I also need to move my body. And another big one is to make a concerted effort to go to mass on a weekly basis. Thanks for a thoughtful post!

BTW, I like the new look of the blog. Maybe I will start my own.... Hmmm, something to think about (and extra to do!);)
